Winter
The main travel season across most of the country. Dry, clear and comfortable through Rajasthan, the Golden Triangle, Kerala and Goa. Book well ahead this is when both international visitors and domestic travel peak.
Spring
Warming quickly on the plains but still pleasant early on, and the window when the Himalayan foothills open up. Holi falls in this stretch. Prices ease as the heat builds.

Rain across most of the country, heaviest on the west coast. The landscape is at its most dramatic, Kerala’s Ayurveda season runs through it, and it is the cheapest time to travel with the trade-off that transport can be disrupted.
India is several climates at once, so the right season depends entirely on the region the window that suits Rajasthan is the wrong one for Ladakh.
